Driven by his passion for social development, he later joined JMECT as a Project Coordinator for an education project. His experience in the development sector gave him a deep understanding of the socio-economic challenges faced by rural communities, particularly families living below the poverty line.

Inspired to create sustainable and community-led change, he returned to his native village and founded Altruism Society Honour Assistance (AsHA) in 2019. Since its inception, AsHA has worked to strengthen Self-Help Groups, improve rural livelihoods, and promote quality education for marginalized communities.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, AsHA provided relief support to vulnerable families and promoted nutrition gardens for households struggling to access fresh vegetables, with support from organizations such as SeSTA and Goonj. Recognizing the disruption to children’s education during prolonged school closures, AsHA mobilized local youth volunteers to establish community-based Learning Improvement Centres, ensuring that lower primary students continued to receive foundational education.

Today, under his leadership, AsHA focuses on sustainable livelihood promotion, quality education, organizational development, and community resilience. Ashadul Akand remains dedicated to empowering rural communities in Kokrajhar district by building self-reliant institutions, strengthening local leadership, and creating opportunities for inclusive and sustainable development.
